Family Holiday Fun Activities for Kids of all Ages

Coming to Moreton Bay Region for a family holiday, a weekend escape, or a day trip away from the city? No matter how long or short your stay, there’s plenty to see and do for a family day out Brisbane north of the city sure to please all your loved ones.

We’ve sectioned together a bunch of fun activities for kids of different age groups ideal for bubs, teens and all ages in between. Some suggestions cross age groups so feel free to mix and match to suit your family’s preferences.

Trundle to Woodford for a Family Train Ride

Chug over to Woodford Railway for an approximate 20-minute historic train ride in the hinterland. Train trips take place on the first and third Sunday of each month at 30-minute intervals from 10am to 3:30pm.

If your little one can’t get enough of all things railway related peruse the fascinating historical train memorabilia, educational displays, and railway-themed books & DVDs for sale after your choo-choo trip.

Enjoy a Farm Animal Family Day Out Brisbane North

Your little one will love getting up-close to farm animals great and small at the Trevena Glen Farm recurring open day event held on the first Saturday of each month.

Bring your family to Mt Samson for a lovely morning petting and feeding a wide range of animals including an alpaca, chickens, pigs, sheep, cows, guinea pigs, goats and horses. A few new residents have recently joined the farm family including 2 boisterous baby goats, a cheeky donkey foal and a gorgeous little lamb.

Other fun activities for kids include family tractor bed rides and horse rides. A coffee van and sausage sizzle are also on-site to get your morning started right. Online pre-purchase of tickets is recommended.

Bounce Around in a Large Indoor Playground

Make your outing a little more action-packed with a day at BOUNCE, an incredible indoor adventure playground and trampoline park in Morayfield.

The kids can test themselves on the X-Park ninja course, the slam dunk court, or experience the exhilaration of high-performance trampolines.

Why not try their hand at wall running, launching themselves into a giant airbag or take the plunge off the cliff jump?

Or if you're around the North Lakes area, stop in at Revolution Sports Park for a similar experience.

How About Water Play beside the Bay?

Introduce your little one to water wading and splash play in the safe surrounds of the wheelchair accessible Settlement Cove Lagoon. The large swimming pool features wading areas along with shallow and deep spots making it beloved by kids of all ages.

BBQ and picnic facilities are in the area, while cafes and restaurants are just a short walk away, making the lagoon the perfect base for a sun-drenched family day out Brisbane north of the city.

Fun Activities for Kids in Local Parks

  • John Scott Park – Samford’s best park complete with playground is right across the road from must-do dining venues.
  • Pirate Park – The Scarborough Beach park features a playground. It’s found right across the street from numerous dining options.
  • Pelican Park – The large Clontarf waterside park is within walking distance of 3 others (including Crockatt Park) and a few cafes.
  • Town Park Lake Eden – Home to waterbirds and a playground, this park is located near a few cafes and North Lakes Westfield Shopping Centre.
  • Pine Rivers Park – This huge Strathpine park consists of playgrounds, pathways and wide open spaces for active, all ages play.
  • Boundary Park – Bring some sausages for a BBQ lunch in this Everton Park, or bring your bicycles for a family cycle along Kedron Brook Bikeway.
  • Kumbartcho Sanctuary – This peaceful nature reserve is home to a magical fairy garden. Bring your young one to search for this hidden imaginative hideaway.
  • Leis Park – Launch a kayak into the river from the Lawnton side for a family paddle, or head across to the Petrie side for playground fun in Wyllie Park and Sweeney Reserve.
  • Centenary Lakes Park – This sprawling, picturesque Caboolture park features playgrounds, lengthy walking paths and beautiful lakes home to duck families, just a 12-minute drive from Caboolture Environmental Education Centre.
