Gather and Feast Annie Lane Owner Head Chef Candice Kiss

Originally from Bundaberg, I left school at the age of 16 knowing there was nothing else I was ever going to do but work with food. I moved on my own 12 hours away to start an apprenticeship in the Whitsundays.

During my time in the Whitsundays, I worked in an array of restaurants from franchises to small dining and 5-star resorts. By the age of 18 before even completing my apprenticeship I was recruited to become head chef of a restaurant in Adelaide. From Adelaide, I was lucky enough to do a seasonal stint in Cape York and had the opportunity to work with some very interesting native ingredients including Green Ants, Kakadu plum and desert limes.

From Cape York I decided to settle in Toowoomba working in a cafe for 9 years which has shaped who I am today.

I have done stints with high profile chefs and everyday cooks. The person who has taught me the most would have to be myself. No one can teach you passion, it's either in you or not and I can say I have it in spades.

A few years working on the Sunshine Coast working at Daisys Place and Greenhouse I eventually took the plunge and opened my own food truck, our specialty was vegan food and it was received exceptionally well by the major events in the city.

The obvious option next was to open our cafe Gather & Feast. We have been here for nearly 2.5 years and its success and has exceeded all of my expectations.

The menu is heavily brunch based. This was created from the fact that I could literally eat breakfast for 3 meals a day. We cater to all dietary requirements for Vegan, sugar-free, keto, gluten-free and your everyday indulgence.

We have a strong relationship with local food suppliers including Basilea and LuvaBerry and we source as much local produce as possible.

We are also committed to doing our bit to help the environment, our coffee grinds are picked up by numerous customers to help with their gardens, our food waste is picked up by no such thing as wasted and turned into compost for worm farms. We have a recycled mug section where you can take a ceramic mug of coffee with you instead of the paper cups and return them next time if you wish.

Our coffee is organic and fairtrade and we are proud that we are contributing to a sustainable future.

Annie Lane is our sister cafe on Bribie Island and has been opened since April, our menu is similar in the brunch aspect but is definitely a little more indulgent.

With 5 kids and 2 cafes life is certainly a juggle, will there be a third cafe? Never say never :-)
