Local. Seasonal. Sustainable. That’s the motto at Flock Eatery and it’s no wonder with their strong focus on using local produce for their farm-to-plate dining experience. Head down to Redcliffe peninsula from Tuesday – Sunday for a delectable taste of Moreton Bay Region’s fresh, seasonal produce.
Using locally sourced produce from the Moreton Bay Region, Flock Eatery is a boutique café near Brisbane serving up a fresh and seasonal menu of delicious flavours. From an all-day breakfast to healthy smoothies and kid’s meals, Flock works closely with a range of farmers and producers in the Moreton Bay Region to provide a range of tastes to suit everyone.
While specialising in catering to customer’s dietary requirements such as vegan and gluten-free alternate diets, Flock also have plenty of meat choices for the carnivores at heart. Stop by for some smashed avo (and still be able to afford a home loan) with their low-cost menu that includes everything from a sandwich to a vegan ‘Buddah Bowl’ with falafel, curried hummus, roast sweet potato, kale and more! Not feeling like a full meal? Grab a bowl of fries with vegan aioli or quench your thirst with a chai latte or freshly squeezed juice.
The house blend ethically-produced coffee comes from Tim Adams on the Sunshine Coast and is part of the Chapola Project that ensures coffee growers in developing nations get a higher price for their beans and the profits support the local communities.
Sustainability is moving closer to the forefront of many people’s minds as it becomes more and more important to protect the future of our planet. For a business owner, the easiest step toward sustainability begins with waste. At Flock Eatery, the team sends their organic waste and food scraps to the same farm that supplies them with their greens, creating a perfect environmental and sustainability closed loop.
A great example of this sustainability loop is with their supplier, Loop Growers. Based in Samford, Loop Growers collects and composts all of Flock’s food wastage, turning it into organic matter which is then used to grow produce which that ends up on the eatery’s menu. Both businesses are each other’s support system and work together harmoniously to support local business owners within the Moreton Bay Region.
Flock Eatery are also proud to be plastic-free, having their produce delivered in cardboard boxes and providing compostable coffee cups that are also sent off to Loop Growers. If you bring your own, reusable coffee cup, you also get a 50c discount on your coffee!
In 2018, Flock Eatery took out the Moreton Bay Regional Council Business of the Year Award along with the Cleanaway Environment & Sustainability Excellence Award (something they also won in 2017) at the Moreton Bay Business Excellence & Innovation Awards. Since this time, they have been nationally recognised for their commitment to sustainable practices and environmental improvements as part of their day to day business operations.
Owner-Chef Geoff Abel also walked away as a finalist for the USC Young Entrepreneur Award in 2018. Barely a year old at the time of nomination, the future looks bright for the team at Flock Eatery.
