Join us at the gallery on Thursdays during the Brooching the subject exhibition to explore some of the many areas of brooch making.
Thursday 5 September - Textile brooch: Make a colourful brooch using fibres, fabrics and some easy sewing techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring a selection of small fabric pieces (up to 10cm square) to suit their wardrobe and the gallery will have a selection available too.
Thursday 12 September - Crocheted brooch: Crochet quick and easy brooches to add a splash of colour. Participants will need a basic knowledge of simple crochet stitches and a 3.5 or 4.0 hook.
Thursday 19 September - Beaded butterfly brooch: Make a beautiful wire butterfly embellished with seed beads.
Thursday 10 October - Origami brooch: Make a bold geometric origami brooch. Brooches will be varnished ready for wear.
Thursday 17 October - Collage brooch: Get creative and make a statement collage brooch. Participants are invited to bring any ephemera they may want to incorporate into this statement brooch and the gallery will also provide a wide range of materials.
Thursday 24 October - Found objects brooch: Sometimes found objects can evoke memories…and what better way to celebrate that memory than with a wearable art piece. Participants are invited to bring any small objects they may want to incorporate into this statement brooch and the gallery will provide a wide range of materials to accessorise it.
Thursday 31 October: Paper brooch: Paper is surprisingly strong and hardwearing under the right conditions. Make a brooch exploring some unusual paper sculpture techniques.
There will be no adult programming on Thursday 26 September and 3 October 2019. During school holidays the gallery will be hosting a program of children’s art and craft activities.
Free. No bookings required.
