In their stunning grounds, the Abbey Museum and Church will be hosting an afternoon of nibbles, dancing, and games.
Celebrate the strawberry season in the Moreton Bay region in the most perfect of ways by donning your best bonnet or top hat and immersing yourself in the sights, sounds and tastes of the Regency period! Bring a strawberry laden picnic lunch or pre-purchase a hamper to enjoy in the stunning grounds of the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology and Abbey Church.
Partake in games such as pall-mall, the game of graces, battledore and archery. Practice your brushstrokes, learn how to embroider your handkerchiefs, learn the language of the regency fan, or the uses of herbs in the regency era.
Dance Kaleidoscope will be running a dance workshop at 10 am if you want to arrive early and improve your dancing.
The entire afternoon will be filled with these activities and any other elegant endeavours you wish, as well as the opportunity to explore the Abbey Museum and tour the Abbey Church.
Afternoon tea will be served at 2:15, including tea and coffee, cool beverages, and a range of delicious sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and, of course, strawberries!
Abbey Museum is proud to announce a special guest will be attending Picnic at Pemberley. A relative of Jane Austen herself, Caroline Jane Knight will be presenting a talk about her family/connection with Jane Austen and Chawton House where Jane lived and wrote. She will bring with her a piece of the Wedgwood dinner service will be brought along for attendees to see. This dinner plate would have been eaten from by Jane Austen herself, and Jane wrote about selecting the service from Wedgwood with her brother.
This event is sure to be an afternoon of fun and beauty. Tickets will be on sale from the Abbey Museum website so be sure to put the date in your calendar if you don’t want to miss out.
