Looking for something to do this Good Friday with friends or the family? Be shore side for the spectacular start of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. The Redcliffe Festival of Sails is an annual event which takes place on the foreshore of Suttons Beach on the Redcliffe Peninsula with markets, family activities and a prime possie to watch the yachts race by. See the full incredible program and event details at www.redcliffefestivalofsails.com.au.
Considered one of the biggest yacht races in Australia, the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race sets the scene for this Festival. 2019 will be the 71st time this race has taken place. Usually occurring in the morning, the competing yachts will pass across Moreton Bay en route for Gladstone in the hopes of winning the prestigious Courier Mail Cup.
To get a good view of the event unfolding, bring your chairs or picnic blanket and binoculars and find a place on the beach early. Good spots tend to go fast!
Since it takes place on Good Friday, Festival of Sails has plenty of fun Easter themed activities to participate in. Kids will love the Easter egg hunt which occurs on the beach, there is also a surprise visit by the Easter Bunny who sometimes makes a spectacular entrance by parachuting onto the beach! Take advantage of face painting, amusement rides, a petting zoo and pony rides, too - before you've eaten too much chocolate!
Another enjoyable aspect of the Redcliffe Sails Festival is the hundreds of markets that set up every year. From arts and crafts to delicious food stalls, there is something for everyone at the market place. Stallholder Applications have now closed.
Suttons Beach will come alive during the Redcliffe Festival of Sails. Be sure to go and visit the Beach Zone once you get there. The first thing that will meet your eyes will be the incredible hand crafted sand sculptures. The kids will love getting their hands messy making their own sand sculptures, too, on this accessible shoreline. Watch beach volleyball and keep an eye out for other keep fit activities on the sand. There really is something for everyone.
Every year at the Redcliffe Festival of Sails, live stage entertainment is provided all day on the Main Stage. Be sure to check it out and get your groove on! Music and entertainment make it a great day out for kids and parents alike. The full program of live music and entertainment will be confirmed closer to the event.
