3 Best Café Experiences in Moreton Bay Region & What to Order

If you’re planning a trip to Moreton Bay Region there are so many things to see and do, from the Bayside to the Hinterland, and café lovers will be amazed at the number and variety of exceptional foodie experiences in the area. Whatever type of casual dining experience you’re keen for, the Moreton Bay Region has something that fits the bill. Here are five of the best café experiences you can try and a suggestion of what to order once you sit down and relax.

#1 The Village Deli, BONGAREE

The Village Deli is the ideal place for travellers to stop for a late brekkie or brunch and is also a great location to stock up for your picnic basket essentials like dips, cheese and preserves. You can hang out on the spacious deck in the sun and relax with your kids (or your date) while you mull over the menu, made with certified organic produce and all-natural ingredients.

This is an ideal place for vegans and vegetarians where you can pick up a bottle of fermented kombucha, locally and internationally known as a superfood. They’re also ethically minded, so bring your “keep-cup” and help save the environment while you enjoy your coffee, or check out the plant nursery for some natives.

Must try: Everyone raves about the delicious quiches available at the Village Deli. With light-as-air pastry and fresh fillings like goat’s cheese and pumpkin, these are finished off with fresh herbs and come in a range of varieties to keep everyone happy. If you’re travelling, grab a couple to take away and enjoy later – you’ll be very glad you did!

#2 Neli Coffee, CLONTARF

This remarkable café supplies coffee throughout the state as well as online and if you go to their in-house café you can watch the beans being roasted right in front of your eyes.

It’s worth it to see how this process is controlled from start to finish and residents as well as travellers just love it. It’s just “consistently great coffee,” according to the locals and you can buy fresh whole roasted beans or ground coffee to take home, which is always a plus. The team at Neli Coffee are just so passionate, and it really shows in their perfect execution of any types of coffee you want to indulge in, whether you’re a lover of a soy latte or a double shot espresso.

Must try: With so much love going into every cup, you really have to make it a priority to try the Neli Coffee (their daily blend), or the ‘single origin’ which is changed daily. The kids will love one of their exclusive rich chocolate powders, made into a delicious hot chocolate. If you’ve got time to spare, you could even try one of their barista workshops, held on the premises.

#3 The Flying Nun Café, SAMFORD VALLEY

This is a multi-award winning favourite of the Moreton Bay Region, boasting Certificates of Excellence from global platform Trip Advisor. It’s a highly unique café, built with twin buildings set on open decks that overlook a luscious rainforest garden. This is a must-see, with beautiful architecture and a name inspired by 60s TV show, The Flying Nun with Sally Field.

The café does breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as “Afternun” tea. There’s a great selection of wine by the glass or bottle and craft beers for the non-designated drivers in your travelling party. The café offers gluten free and vegetarian options, as well as kids’ meals, so you can be confident of everyone leaving happy.

Must try: The light and crispy panko-crumbed spanner crab and dill cakes are finished off with saffron sauce and a crunchy watercress, tomato and fennel salad and will leave your lunch partner reaching for a bite or two. Everything is delicate and fresh and served with a brevity and passion that you only get from a place that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

"Fantastic food in a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is across the road from the Samford Museum, and a large park for the kids. And next door is The Store of Requirement (for any Harry Potter fans)." Trip Advisor - sgrant70
