Experience Moreton Bay Region like a Local

Local Tastes Natural Attractions

We had a chat to one of our favourite Moreton Bay Region residents, Elaine Parker, to discover her favourite haunts around our slice of paradise.

Meet Elaine

Elaine is a local mother of 2 teenage boys and grant writing master who has raised thousands of dollars for local community organisations, schools and sporting groups over the years. Here’s her top picks for places to visit and events to attend in our region:

#1. How long have you lived in Moreton Bay Region?

John and I moved into our first home in Lawnton (near Lake Samsonvale) on Christmas Eve in 1994, celebrating with a bottle of Moet.

#2. What is your favourite event in the region?

Dayboro Day is my favourite event. It’s a nice scenic drive to Dayboro and provides a great opportunity to soak up the community atmosphere. There is always so much to see, do and of course taste.

#3. What has been your favourite grant project?

I love every grant I have worked on, from the upgrading of the old bitumen playground at Lawnton State School to the amazing play and learning quadrangle – which was one of my absolute favourites – as well as the funding for the introduction of a cooking, gardening and breakfast program at the school.

Moreton Bay Region Hinterland

#4. What do love most about living in the region?

The region is great, you can travel from the mountains to the beach in just a short drive. The choice of places to visit and events you can attend is endless.

#5. What are your hobbies?

I enjoy reading and walking. There are some great places to go walking in Lawnton, right through to wandering the foreshore at Scarborough and Redcliffe.

#6. What have you loved most about working in the region?

It was wonderful to work close to home and to be able to go for a walk at lunchtime around the local sporting fields and see all the local wildlife both around the Arana Leagues Club fields and along Kedron Brook.

Bullocky Point Lake Samsonvale

#7. What do you like to do during school holidays?

We enjoy taking the boys to Bullocky Rest (at Lake Samsonvale) for picnics and BBQs with friends. We also like to take the boys to Scarborough to explore the rock pools and enjoy some fish and chips.

#8. Favourite coffee shop?

I have a few coffee shops I like, but our favourite coffee shop has become The Coffee Club at Strathpine Centre where I meet my husband for a dinner date most Thursday evenings.

Redcliffe Jetty

#9. Where is your favourite spot to take visitors?

A day trip to the Redcliffe Jetty and the Redcliffe Jetty Sunday Markets is always a winner for us.
