An island getaway from you own backyard? Yes, you heard correctly. The Redcliffe2Moreton Express takes passengers on a scenic passenger ferry transfer from Newport, Scarborough to Bulwar, Moreton Island, and it will be running on Friday, 26 January and Sunday, 28 January - providing guests with an Australia Day long weekend to remember!


What to Expect Aboard the Redcliffe to Moreton Island Ferry 

The passenger ferry from Redcliffe to Moreton Island will depart on Friday and Sunday morning at 10am, treating walk-on passengers to a 40 minute scenic cruise across Moreton Bay Marine Park. The bay is teeming with marine life so keep an eye out for turtles, dolphins, dugongs (and even humpback whales during whale migration season from June to November). The ferry returns to Newport, Scarborough each day at 3pm. 

Spying marine life on a scenic cruise can be thirsty work. The passenger ferry service features a fully-operational bar selling snacks and drinks to keep you hydrated and energized for your island adventures ahead. Alcohol can also be purchased and for those after a warm cup of goodness – FREE tea and coffee are available. Please note the Ferry does not have Eftpos facilities on board, please bring cash if you wish to buy any drinks or snacks on board.

Sundrenched Fun & Fresh Food await on Moreton Island

The Redcliffe to Moreton Island ferry will drop you off for an eco-friendly beach landing at Bulwer, (about 12km north of Tangalooma Resort) a small, quaintly charming village located on the north-eastern side of Moreton Island. Just a short walk from the ferry drop-off point is Castaways Store & Café, a beach-themed venue offering breakfast, lunch, snacks and everything you need for the perfect island day trip.

During your time on the island (95% of which is national park) you are free to do whatever you fancy – enjoy a picnic lunch, swim or snorkel the Bulwer Wrecks, bushwalk and explore, or just kick-back on the beach for some rest and relaxation, spending time with the local wildlife.

4 Things to do on Moreton Island in & around Bulwer this Long Weekend

The small holiday and fishing village of Bulwer offers visitors several sunkissed activities to enjoy on the sands and in the water:

#1 Host an exclusive private game of beach cricket at one of the region's most scenic locations.

#2 Take some snaps of the Bulwer wrecks from the shore.

#3 Get in the water for a swim, or snorkel around the wrecks in calm, clear waters.

#4 Hire some fishing gear from Bulwer’s bait and tackle shop and throw a line in at the beachfront or at Comboyuro Point, a prime shore fishing spot about 2km north of Bulwer.

#5 Stroll along the beachfront for a snorkel or a swim.

Passenger Ferry to Moreton Island & Return to Redcliffe Transfer

  • The ferry departs every Friday and Sunday
  • Ferry from Redcliffe to Moreton Island check-in on the Supercat is 9:30am
  • The Supercat departs Newport Marina, Scarborough (158 Griffith Road, Scarborough QLD) at 10am sharp
  • The Supercat departs Moreton Island at 3pm sharp
  • The Redcliffe to Moreton Island ferry arrives back at Newport Marina, Scarborough around 4pm
  • Carry-on luggage is capped at 1 item per person. Luggage limit of 30kgs applies.

Please Note: Pedestrians/walk-on passengers only – this is not a vehicle ferry. The Supercat is roomy, and safe for prams. No wheelchair access is available. Assistance dogs are of course welcome on-board, pets are not.
