Getting to Moreton Island for the weekend is now much simpler and more convenient thanks to the Redcliffe2Moreton Express operating every Friday and Sunday.

This passenger ferry to Moreton Island departs from Redcliffe Jetty off Redcliffe Parade every Friday and Sunday at 10am (boarding at 9:30am), returning to Redcliffe at approximately 5pm from Bulwer. The Redcliffe boarding and disembarkation point is an approximate 40 minute drive north of Brisbane CBD and a 1 hour drive south of the Sunshine Coast. 

What to Expect Aboard the Redcliffe to Moreton Island Ferry

The passenger ferry from Redcliffe to Moreton Island departs every Friday and Sunday morning at 10am, treating walk-on passengers to an approximate 45 minute scenic cruise across Moreton Bay Marine Park. The bay is teeming with marine life so make the most of your island transfer and return trip by keeping an eye out for turtles, dolphins, dugongs and even humpback whales during whale migration season from June to November.

Feeling a bit thirsty getting to Moreton Island? The passenger ferry service features a fully-operational bar selling snacks and drinks to keep you hydrated and energized for your island adventures ahead. Alcohol can also be purchased and for those after a warm cup of goodness – FREE tea and coffee are available. Please note the ferry does not have Eftpos facilities on board, please bring cash if you wish to buy any drinks or snacks during your cruise. 

Sundrenched Fun & Fresh Food await on Moreton Island

The Redcliffe to Moreton Island ferry will drop you off for an eco-friendly beach landing at Bulwer, (about 12km north of Tangalooma Resort) a small, quaintly charming village located on the north-western side of Moreton Island. You'll find public toilets near the Bulwer barge landing area, and just a short walk from the ferry drop-off point is Castaways Store & Café, a beach-themed venue offering breakfast, lunch, snacks and everything you need for the perfect island day trip.

During your time on the island (95% of which is national park) you are free to do whatever you fancy – enjoy a picnic lunch, swim or snorkel the Bulwer Wrecks, bushwalk and explore, or just kick-back on the beach for some rest and relaxation, spending time with the local wildlife.

Kayak hire is available on the island with Sunrover Tours and must be pre booked online 24 hours before departure. Or enjoy a short guided tour, Moreton Mini Off Road, or the Northern Moreton Express tours must also pre purchased online.

Why Not Stay Awhile?

With simple, beach-style Comboyuro Point campgrounds located at Bulwer (about 2km north of town) ideal for larger group stays, and 4WD tour services available on the island, as well as 4WD hire from Tangalooma Resort, you could turn your day trip into a weeklong back-to-nature adventure and return to the mainland the following Friday or Sunday aboard Redcliffe2Moreton Express.

Passenger Ferry to Moreton Island & Return to Redcliffe Transfer

  • Infants under 12 months are FREE, HOWEVER please purchase the appropriate ADULT or FAMILY ticket option
  • The ferry departs every Friday and Sunday, only during the trial period
  • Ferry from Redcliffe to Moreton Island check-in on the Supercat is 9:30am
  • The Supercat departs Redcliffe Jetty at 10am sharp
  • The Supercat departs Bulwer, Moreton Island at 4pm sharp
  • The Redcliffe to Moreton Island ferry arrives back at Redcliffe around 5pm
  • Carry-on luggage is capped at 1 item per person. Luggage limit of 30kgs applies

Please Note: Pedestrians/walk-on passengers only – this is not a vehicle ferry. Our vessel SUPERCAT is airconditioned, comfortable & roomy, has large TV screens with movies to entertain the kids, a licenced bar and is safe for prams. No wheelchair access is available. Assistance dogs are of course welcome on-board, pets are not. Permanent Residents of the island are permitted to transfer their pet at no charge with prior notification – see information. Bulwer is an eco –friendly beach access only with no jetty’s. Our vessel SUPERCAT will anchor very close to the beach and disembarkation will be onto our vessel tender with transfers to the beach. Wear appropriate shoes as you will need to step into the water on landing. We are currently organising a large disembarkation ladder for the bow of the vessel.

Please Note: Tickets must be purchased 3 days before your intended days of travel to and from the island. It is recommended you book both your tickets well in advance as the ferry services sell out quickly.

Local Resident Price Perks

We have taken heed of feedback and are now offering 2 ferry trips per week – one leaving from Redcliffe on Friday morning and one leaving from Redcliffe on Sunday morning, both boarding at 9:30am for a 10am departure to the island. Return trips from Moreton Island on Fridays and Sundays board at 3:30pm, to depart at 4pm.

Service Provider Cancellation Fees: Cancellations within 3 days of the start date incur a 100% fee. 

 

If you would like to cancel your trip within three days of departure please contact Dolphin Wild direct on 07 38800 4444. Please note there is no refund when cancelling within three days prior to departure.
 
Amendments and date changes are permitted but must be within 7 days of departure date and will incur a $25 fee per person.
