With its cool breezes, gentle waters and stunning view of the bay, Bongaree Beach is a favourite Bribie Island destination for both locals and visitors. Located south of the Bribie Island Bridge, Bongaree Beach has parklands that run parallel to the water along Welsby Parade, with beachfront that is vegetated with a strip of white sand along the waters edge. This makes Bongaree Beach especially attractive to families with toddler aged children (as well as all families in general), offering gentle waters and lots of area to play.
Families will enjoy swimming at Bongaree Beach, with its gentle waters and shallow areas it’s ideal for parents with toddlers to enjoy a day in the sunshine. Give them a bucket and a spade and they will play at the waters edge for hours!
More confident swimmers will enjoy the fun of the jetty at Bongaree, a favourite place to bomb-dive into the water and splash around. Or on a calm day, take a kayak, floatation device or stand up paddleboard and go for a little paddle out into the bay.
Want to paddle, but don’t have the right gear? You can hire equipment from one of the hire stores on the island. Bongaree Beach is also a popular spot to anchor speedboats and jet skies, with a boat ramp at the bridge end of the beach. Out in the bay boating enthusiasts can enjoy a spot of fishing or even waterski when weather conditions permit.
The Bongaree waterfront hosts a number of picnic shelters, tables and BBQ’s for visitors to enjoy a relaxing picnic or BBQ lunch by the sea. It’s a great place to host a kid’s birthday party or have a catchup with friends. Being a popular destination, make sure you get down to the parks early if you have a specific location in-mind for your day out! Why not bring a picnic blanket and set up under one of the shady trees in the parks. Aside from the picnic areas, Bongaree Beach has a number of cafes, takeaway shops, grocery store and an ice-cream parlor all within walking distance.
A network of pathways, perfect for bike riders or those just wanting to take in a scenic stroll, can be discovered at Bongaree Beach. Commencing from S Esplanade, the pathways extend all the way to Sylvan Beach on the other side of the bridge.
