Located in the sleepy shopping strip of Scarborough Village, Pirate Park is a favourite for parents of toddlers and teens alike. Set on absolute beach frontage, the park boasts plenty of car parking spaces as well as barbeques, toilets, green space for kicking a ball and sandy shores for building a castle. But the most popular feature is the creative, fenced playground including traditional play equipment, train and pirate themed attractions and a cluster of stunning trees for climbing. Truly something for everyone!
A pergola with tables located in the centre of the fenced playground is easily accessible via sloped walkways, making it suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Paved and concreted walking paths give way to sand and tan bark at the ends of the playground. Rubber fall under the swings and rope climbing frame means a variety of safe play surfaces to experience.
Several tables and benches inside the fenced area make it easy for parents to let the little ones run around supervised and shelters outside the fences contain electric barbeques and make it easy to host large gatherings without interrupting play time. The other end of the playground boasts a large stand of Cotton Wood trees, providing shade to the benches dotted around the area and plenty of climbing practice for little kids and big.
No trip to Pirate Park is complete without checking out the views of Moreton Bay. The top end of Moreton Island is visible on a clear day, and you can see the Ted Smout Bridge in the opposite direction. The waves have a small break, as the beach is sheltered, making it the perfect spot to let toddlers paddle and play in the water. The Norfolk pines along the beach provide some shade and are spectacular to look at. The bike path is part of the Moreton Bay Cycleway.
Pirate Park is a popular venue during school holidays and weekends. Cafes and takeaways along Landsborough Road provide tasty meal options, or pick up your picnic essentials at the convenience store. Being Redcliffe, there’s also plenty of options for fish and chips! Because Pirate Park is so near to Brisbane, it’s a popular destination for both Moreton and Brisbane families – expect crowds on weekends and school holidays! Reach Pirate Park by following the waterfront around the Redcliffe Peninsula until arriving at Landsborough Ave, Scarborough.
If the kids still have energy after running around at Pirate Park back through the car park and just a little bit further along Scarborough Beach you'll find an inflatable Jumping Pillow.
