This race was name in memory of Lachlan Walters, who was a long time servant of the Moreton Bay Boat Club (MBBC) until he succumbed to cancer. He had a son Adam who was also a long time member of MBBC.
Lachlan was a very jovial character full of life and charisma. He served the MBBC as a director for many years and also was seen as a great ambassador of the club building great relationships with other clubs around the bay and was often seen around Queensland Cruising yacht Club, Wynnum Manly Yacht Club and Royal Queensland Yacht Club building relationships on behalf of MBBC and promoting sailing in the region. Lachy was a keen sailor and had a passion for sailing multi hulls and back from around 1995 on wards was often seen sailing with our current Commodore Nigel Bucknell in either his Farrier F31 Trimaran and later in Nigel’s Corsair 36 Trimaran. He had a need for speed.
This race gives us, the Moreton Bay Boat Club members, a unique opportunity to reflect on those who came before us and the history of our great boat Club. These amazing contributors should never be forgotten and by naming this race in Lacklan Walters name as an annual event he will live on in our hearts for years to come.
