If you are after a memorable couples weekend you’ll find history and charm in abundance at this unique Mt Nebo accommodation. Only a short 40 minute drive away from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane is a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere up in the Moreton Bay Region hinterland where Mount Nebo Railway Carriage and Chalet call home.
The restored 1920s railway carriage, built at the Ipswich Railway Workshops around the 1920s, is the perfect place for a couples weekend getaway, fitted with thoughtful touches and set in a delightful garden on the grounds of Roselou Cottage.
Nestled on the fringe of the D’Aguilar National Park in the Boombana National Park Rainforest, the lovingly restored vintage carriage is self-contained and home to a comfy double bedroom, ensuite, air-conditioning, television and DVD player.
The Mt Nebo accommodation loungeroom occupies a passenger compartment complete with antique luggage racks and walls adorned with railway memorabilia from years gone by, while the dining area is tucked in a buffet compartment.
There’s also a cosy kitchen, with electric cooktops, a microwave and utensils, a gas barbecue on the balcony and access to the property’s wood-fired barbecue.
The carriage is a stone’s throw from the Café In The Mountains – a thriving haven for locals and visitors alike, stocking fresh produce, crafts and art, and with a tempting menu that includes eggs benedict with salmon, delicious cakes, flavoursome soups and more.
Admire the stunning views from the relaxing back deck while you enjoy breakfast, lunch or even fresh scones.
Immerse yourself in nature.
Your home away from home is just 40 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, and only a five-minute stroll to the national park.
Boombana sits in lush rainforest and has two delightful walking trails where you might be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife including pademelons and wompoo fruit doves.
The one-kilometre Pitta Circuit is an easy 30-minute stroll through eucalypt forest that merges into subtropical rainforest with palms, climbing ferns and orchids, as well as an ancient strangler fig, while the 8km Thylogale Walking Track is a three-hour journey from Boombana to Jolly’s Lookout and back.
The scenic Thylogale takes you on a journey past majestic tallowwood trees, blue gums and brushbox, with sweeping views along the way.
There’s loads of other delights to explore while you’re enjoying your couples weekend in this Mt Nebo accommodation – take a scenic drive to Mount Glorious and enjoy breathtaking views from the lookout, duck down to Samford (home to the fascinating Harry Potter-themed Store of Requirement) to sample fresh, local cuisine or pack a picnic and visit Wivenhoe Dam.
