There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of crafting something from scratch. Why not ditch the store-bought décor and try your hand at a pottery class this weekend or school holidays?
It may be an ancient art, but pottery remains as popular as ever – especially as we make the all-important shift towards more eco-friendly materials and pastimes. Plus, it’s the perfect indoor activity for all ages.

The Pottery Barn Gallery throws open its doors to the public every Sunday when Old Petrie Town comes to life with its popular weekend markets.
Admire some of the local handiwork – including sculptures, bowls, ceramics and wares – or purchase that one-off gift for someone special.
Be taken back in time by the smell of freshly-baked bread from the only commercially operated wood-fired bakehouse in Queensland, take your pick from over a dozen food vendors in Mumford’s Barn, grab a beer at the Heritage Hotel, or a burger and shake from the Emporium Milk Bar.
Set amid the historic buildings of Old Petrie Town, the markets run from 7.00am to 1.00pm on Sundays. Ample parking and Eftpos facilities are available for added convenience.
There’s something for everyone at Old Petrie Town – a hidden gem right here in the Moreton Bay Region.
Just 40 minutes’ drive from Brisbane, Old Petrie Town is an educational and interactive day out for families and groups, not to mention a truly unique shopping experience.
When walking through Old Petrie Town, make your way down to Mumford’s Barn (Food Hall), past the Steam Museum and then look down the hill to the left. You’ll spot The Pottery Barn next to the blacksmiths shed.
