Spending a week on Bribie Island

Though a relatively small island in the north Brisbane suburbs, Bribie Island can keep you entertained for days with sights, activities and learning!

DAY 1

Explore the Island by car or bike. Collect the local map from the Information Centre. Check out the shops - Bribie Island Shopping Centre just past the Information Centre also a look at the small local centres at Bellara, Bongaree, Woorim and Banksia Beach. Go for a swim in the calm waters of the Pumicestone Passage. Have dinner at one of the clubs on the Island.

DAY 2

Go for a leisurely stroll along the bike/walking track along the Passage. Try one of our excellent restaurants for dinner.

DAY 3

Go for a swim in the surf at Woorim. It's quite safe and is patrolled during the summer months. Hire a boat from Sylvan Beach, or a BBQ Boat from Spinnaker Sound Marina, and try your luck with a fishing line. If you don't have much luck, a parcel of fish and chips, eaten at one of the many picnic tables along the waterfront makes a delightful dinner.

DAY 4

A morning-tea cruise in Pumicestone Passage and you may see dolphin, dugong, turtles and lots of bird life. Golf or Tennis anyone? The first class all-weather courses are at Woorim and Pacific Harbour and there are tennis courts at Cosmos Park, Banksia Beach. Looking for something a little more unique, book a trip on Bribie Island Gondola, who needs Venice when you can cruise the beautiful waters of Bribie Island?

For dinner tonight, you could try one of our hotel bistros, or the surf club at Woorim - on a warm evening, on the outside deck with a view of Moreton Island.

DAY 5

Visit the Bribie Community Arts Centre, Sunderland Drive. On your way stop and listen to the talking monuments at Sylvan Beach, Community Arts Centre and Banksia Beach Esplanade, and hear a potted history of Bribie's early days. (A self-drive map is available from the Information Centre). If you covered all the previously mentioned, a visit to the Abbey Museum at Ningi or the Caboolture Historical Village, or the Warplane and Flight Heritage Museum at the Caboolture Airfield, will fill in several very interesting hours. This afternoon, relax watching the latest release movie at the Cinema in First Avenue. Indulge yourself tonight with fine dining at the Golf and Country Club or a local restaurant.

DAY 6

Swim at the Bribie Aquatic Centre. They have a heated pool, a 25m pool, picnic and BBQ facilities. There is also aqua aerobics on certain

days. Do you play bowls? There are three clubs on Bribie Island, Bribie Island Bowls Club and Bongaree Sports Club at Bongaree and Solander Lakes Bowling Club at Banksia Beach. They all welcome visitors. There is a walk at the southern end of the Island through to Red Beach, and a track leading to Buckley's Hole and Bird-hide. (Map available from the Information Centre).

Tonight would be a good time to throw a steak or sausage on one of the many fine B.B.Q.'s placed along the Passage-side parks, or the parks at Woorim.

DAY 7

An easy day today, as you'll be packing to go home.

Go for a last-minute drive around your favourite spots on the Island. Watch out for resident wildlife, kangaroos, wallabies and dingoes. If it is a Sunday, there are Markets on the 1^st Sunday at Car Park, Bongaree, 2^nd Sunday at Brennan Park, Bongaree, and 4^th Sunday at Community Art Centre. Also Miniature Train Rides, at Melsa Park, Bongaree on the 3^rd Sunday, from 9.00am. In addition, there is bingo played somewhere almost every day of the week, also Hoy at the Golden Age Senior Citizens Centre, where there are also other daily activities for the elderly. Peter Samson will take you for a bird walk (we have more varieties than Kakadu). There is Indoor Bowls at the Indoor Bowls Centre and at the RSL.
