As soon as you walk through the doors of the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in Caboolture, you will instantly feel like you have stepped into the pages of a history book.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a real history buff or someone who likes to look at fancy old things, because there are thousands of artefacts and antiquities to browse through.
In fact, there are around 4000 pieces on display, spanning more than 500,000 years of humankind, (who needs Europe right!)
Here you will learn more about prehistoric Europe through to the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Roman Empire, Medieval Europe and even modern times.
Highlights of the museum include suits of armour, medieval weapons, an Egyptian death mask, ancient coins, stained glass fragments from Winchester Cathedral and a penny-farthing bicycle, meaning there is plenty of things to entertain both young and old visitors.
The museum also brings history to life with the pageantry and excitement of Medieval Europe with the hugely popular Abbey Medieval Festival, which is held over two big days each July.
The two-day spectacular features live re-enactments including a castle siege, firing of the cannon and trebuchet (catapult), roving musicians and performers, animal demonstrations including Birds of Prey, market stalls and more.
Here you can cheer on the professional jousters, snack on genuine meals which would have been eaten many centuries ago, and meet the many traders who will be selling an array of gifts and souvenirs.
